Professor Dr. Mazlan Abdul Wahid has been in the academic field for more than 30 years at School of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His research interest mainly on the fundamental and engineering applications research of high-speed flows in the presence of various physical phenomena.  He is also active in scientific research work related to low emission combustion system such as flameless combustion and supersonic reacting shock wave phenomena. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 referred journal articles and books. Professor Mazlan was the chairman of several international conferences such as Asian International Conference Fluid Machinery (AICFM), International Meeting on Advances in Thermofluids (IMAT) and the International Conference on Energy and Thermal Sciences (ICETS). He was appointed as the Secretary General of the Asian Fluid Machinery Committee (AFMC), an international organization whose members comprise scholars and industry representatives from Japan, Korea, China, India, Singapore, Malaysia and some other countries. He has been involved in supervising more than 25 PhD Students, 30 master students and his research topics are mostly related to Sustainable Energy Conversion Technology's emphasis on Waste to Wealth and low emission combustion technology such as flameless combustion. He is also currently focus on devising a new type of supersonic combustion engines called Rotating Detonation Engines as a more efficient and powerful supersonic engines.
